Treats For Weight Loss – Snack Ideas

Eating healthy doesn’t mean it has to be drab and uninteresting. There are treats for weight loss! Interesting delicious snacks and treats you can enjoy and still obey the principles in Best Way To Lose Weight Without Going Crazy. Yep, you can have amazing fun on this lifestyle and you develop more as you go on.

A lot of people say to me ‘Dr. Funmi, can I have cheat days?’ or ‘what can I eat on my cheat days?’ I actually wonder where this idea came from. Who are you trying to cheat? Yourself? Your body? Your health?

Cheat Days:

When people are on a ‘healthy diet’ or a ‘weight loss diet’ particularly ones sold to them by some ‘gurus’, they are often told they can have cheat days. This can be one cheat day a week or in 2 weeks or a month as the coach or maybe the client sees fit.

On this day, they can eat anything they like then go back to the diet. It means, the diet is kind of like a punishment and then they occasionally need to come out for air.

A diet that would make you lose weight and keep you trim can’t be a punishment. It has to be a way of eating you can continue for the rest of your life. It has to be a lifestyle. If it’s not sustainable that way, then it can’t work long term.

You lose the weight on the diet and gain it all back when you go off the diet. I believe that’s not what you want. To lose weight and lose it for good. Changing cloth sizes every few months can’t be fun, not to talk of expensive.

When I tell people about this ‘low fat whole food plant based’ diet/lifestyle, they assume it’s like every other kind of diet they’ve heard off and expect a cheat day.

This is different! You don’t need to cheat yourself.

Anatomy of Cheat Days:

Let’s look at it a little closer. You are eating healthy (assuming it actually is) every day, feeding your body right in order to heal, repair and take care of you. Then, you want a day to eat wrong to destroy and damage your body. Is that it?

Just like having a husband that is good, loving, and caring but has a cheat day when he is abusive and mean? Or a friend that’s dependable and loyal that has a cheat day that she betrays and hurts you? What good is such a husband or friend that is good to you only 6 days in a week or 13 days in 2 weeks?

I hope my analogy is clear enough. The way you’d ditch such a friend or guy is the same way you should ditch the notion of cheat days. Don’t pick a day to destroy your health in a month. It doesn’t even make sense.

This however is different from you slipping up and falling into the temptation of junk and unhealthy food. It happens once a while even to the best of us. But as we get more like a pro eating this way, we’ll fall less and hopefully never again. I discussed this in Food Cravings And Temptations – How To Overcome Them

Nothing is neutral:

Nothing you put in your mouth is neutral no matter how small it is. It is either damaging your body or building it up. Our Lord Jesus Christ said ‘ Whoever is not for Me is against Me’. In the same light whatever is not for your body (which is actually His temple) is against it.

Like I said in Best Weight loss Pills – Be Slim And Remain Slim the focus is on being healthy and weight loss follows like a puppy. Don’t mortgage your health. You can have interesting treats that are healthy, feed your body with all it needs to thrive, and lose weight if you are overweight or obese.

You probably know one or two people who eat unhealthily, yet they are slim. The fact that they’ve not packed on extra fat on the body doesn’t mean everything is right. With age, that invisibility disappears and they start packing on excess fat. Don’t look at them, their day of reckoning is coming…lol


Instead of having cheat days, you can have treat days. On these days, you have treats that are made from healthy ingredients that nourish your body and support your weight loss goals.

On these days, you can have nuts and seeds which we agree are very healthy and nutritious. We only left them out of the eating plan in Best Way To Lose Weight Without Going Crazy because they are very calorie-dense.

Most of these treats are so perfectly inline with your weight loss plan that you can have them everyday. Talk about guilt free indulgence! Making them may seem like a lot of work initially, but with time, you’ll have a hang of them that you’ll be able to assemble them quickly and easily.

If you are going to eat this way your whole life, you better start having serious fun with your meals. Even members of your family not on the plan would prefer your treats knowing it’s even healthy.

Oatmeal Cookies:

This is one of my favorite treats. Maybe because it still stays within the plan and I can still observe the 50/50 rule by eating some carrot sticks or cucumber slices while waiting for it to be ready. It’s the perfect treat.


Treats For Weight Loss - Oatmeal Cookies


  • Mash the banana with a fork or a potato masher till smooth.
  • Add the oats, psyllium husk, and cocoa powder.
  • Mix together and leave to sit for a few minutes for the psyllium husk and banana to hold it all together. 10 – 15 mins is fine.
  • Mould into cookie shapes.
  • Bake at 375 degrees Fahrenheit or 190 degrees Celcius for 15 – 20 minutes.

Please note I didn’t blend the oatmeal into powder. I used them whole.

Whole Food Sharwama:

Yep! you read right, sharwama! This is fully inline with the plan and incorporates the 50/50 rule perfectly.

The wrap:


  • Sweet Potatoes
  • Psyllium husk


  • Boil the sweet potatoes till soft.
  • Mash in a bowl using a fork or potato masher.
  • Add the psyllium husk and mix it together. Leave for 10 – 15 mins for the psyllium husk to hold the sweet potato together. You may need to add a little water. Please be careful, you’ll probably need just a spoon if at all.
  • Place in a non-stick frying pan and press it flat into a round shape with your hands.
  • Place on the burner – medium heat
  • Leave for 5 mins and then flip to the other side. Leave also for 5 mins. Or until firm but not burnt
  • The wrap is ready.
The Filling:


  • A variety of vegetables you want – cabbage is usually used but you can modify to your preference
  • Onions
  • Garlic
  • Mushrooms
  • Spices and seasonings


  • Slice the onions and Garlic.
  • Marinate the mushrooms with spices and seasoning of choice.
  • Sauté the onions in a frying pan without oil for about 3 minutes. If it starts to burn, just add like a tablespoon or two of water. PLEASE NO OIL.
  • Add the garlic and leave for another 2 minutes
  • Add the marinated mushrooms and leave for about 5 minutes.
  • Chop your cabbage and other vegetables
The Cream:


  • 1/3 cup of raw cashews
  • 2 cloves of garlic
  • 1 teaspoon apple cider vinegar
  • Juice of half a lemon
  • 1/3 teaspoon of salt.
  • 1/4 teaspoon of black pepper.
  • 1/4 cup of water.
  • Dates to sweeten if you want


Place all in a blender and blend till smooth. Please note, use raw cashews, not roasted ones. This cream can be used in place of mayonnaise or as a salad dressing.


Put the vegetables and the sautéed mushrooms in the wrap, put the cream and food is ready. Sometimes I just put tabasco pepper sauce instead of the cream.

This is perfectly in line with your weight loss meal plan. Satisfies the 50/50 rule, even almost like 70/30. Now you get the idea.
